Coach Colleen Russo and Melanie Krause met in the summer of 2015 to discuss their dream of providing educational and life opportunities for the neurodiverse population. From those humble beginnings, The HUB Houston was founded. The HUB is a non-residential educational program supporting neurodiverse young people in navigating academics, employability, community involvement, and care.
The HUB is committed to fostering personal growth and unlocking individual potential in a relationship-centered community for teenagers and young adults on the Autism Spectrum. The mission of The HUB is to create a community where every member is heard, understood, and believed in.
The HUB offers four programs: High School, Life 101, Aspire Accessories, and Club HUB. High School provides a project-based learning model we have confidently incorporated into our curriculum; our continuing education program for postgraduates, Life 101, provides additional practices in everyday skills or, for the more advanced members, academic support upon entering college. Life 101 also offers an Employability Program for our students who are capable and ready to enter the workforce; Aspire Accessories joined The HUB organization in 2021, offering an equitable work transition program for young adult Artisans; and Club HUB, a strictly a social club, offering a variety of membership options.
With this background, we are making great inroads with the older population and offering social clubs, employability courses, and a sense of purpose and community for our student members. We have been very fortunate to have strong support since our beginning in 2015 and continue to receive funding and other support from our families, friends, and local foundations. This year, as we begin our ninth year of serving the neurodiverse population, we are so blessed to have funders who believe in and support our mission. One of our funders, the Hodges family, donated our Galway campus to the organization in March 2022. This incredible gift gives us the security and stability to continue growing and expanding our offerings for the neurodiverse community.
The HUB Houston, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization.
